Maxon announced that an Arnold to Cinema 4D bridge is being developed by Solid Angle (after being developed independently for a number of years) and will be shown at this year’s SIGGRAPH. The plugin is scheduled for release in Q4 2014. More on Maxon’s site.

So, the C4D-version is out BEFORE the 3DSmax-version – wow.
Solid Angles response about the Max plugin not happening is that they are aimed at big studios with a load of licenses. Now it seems like that may have changed considering a C4D version.
I personally think they have something against 3ds Max, with Maya being pushed on all fronts at Autodesk. Lets see how many licenses they actually sell for C4D vs get pirated. They must know that there are big studios ready to buy this for C4D.
If you go back a few months, Bobo posted saying that the response of the C4D community for the Krakatoa version was quite good and unexpected.
So in that sense, I guess we can expect the same from Arnold to C4D.
Keep in mind that when you talk to C4D users, a big amount of them are people who got tired of AD/3ds Max and went looking for alternatives.
My only doubt is what will AD present as new on 3ds Max 2016? Houdini Engine is already coming from third party, Open Subdiv also. Arnold came out first in C4D. Unless they put BiFrost on Max or a completely revamped animation/cat system in Max, etc, I think Max 2016 will make a lot of people mad. 🙂
@MauricioPC
If that is the case with max 2016, all AD is really doing is keeping up from where they left 2015…..
Does everyone remember the big MAX is being rewritten debacle a few years back? and that the rewrite was meant to happen over 2014,2015 and 2016 ? So I am sure that some of that is / has happened, but it’s really sad that it feels or runs no different to previous versions.
I would change from max in a heartbeat if I got the chance.. unfortunately the architectural industry isn’t a fast one, and most companies would do just fine with using max 2011 still.
speechless…
Perhaps Marcos Fajardo soon will become acquainted with Vladimir Abushinov and his Max to Arnold Exporter and develop it further…
The biggest factor in these situations is autodesk in my opinion, the fact is that right now these companies have come to believe that autodesk doesn’t want to push Max for big entertainment pipelines(at least not as much as other packages) and you can’t blame them afterall, such a pitty and such a mistake from autodesk(and in case of c4d I think Maxon for instance has had a very important roll in making this happen)…
But, there are some changes emerging in this pattern recently, Max being used at ILM, Fabric developing for Max, hearing the possibility of a Renderman bridge, scattered news about promising developments not from the devs but from the users this time around, etc…
I have no doubt that if autodesk takes the steps in the right direction these kind of companies would eventually follow suite, the huge userbase of Max isn’t something that they can afford not to take advantage of, so to speak, but they need to know autodesk is serious about this before they can commit, I’m actually a bit optimistic that this year will HOPEFULLY mark a new era in Max’s development and thus a new way of thinking about Max from some 3rd party developers…
Also, In case of arnold, there’s another very important factor involved, and it’s called V-Ray, which especially has a very deep route in Max’s community, and thus it would make developing other renderers for Max a very risky business…
Yep, I’m still using Max2011. Sad isn’t it really considering I used to upgrade every year (although I was in the VFX industry). I can’t help feel that 3ds Max is on the way out in the eyes of all the big players if it isn’t already out and my absence from the industry for a few years has precluded me from seeing that.
Difficult not to sound overly entitled as a 3ds max user but what is the rationale behind this? Surely max is a more popular package if development resources are that limited.
But you know what? I dont care.
I have corona. And i love every single bit of it. It is my holy grail.
Volumetrics are coming aswell…
I spoke to one guy from Solid Angel. He told me that Maxon, the devloper of Cinema 4D came to them and said, that they would develop the connection plugin and give it for free back to solid angel, when they will support them.
So it is Maxon who did this by themself. On the 3dsmax site, there is no such interest or motiviation, which is sad, but Maxon seems to have the more motivated people right now 🙁
