(Updated) FXGear has announced that a trial version of Flux will be released around September 10, and that the commercial version of the software is scheduled for an October/November release.
Flux is a node-based fluid simulation software being developed by Seoul-based FXGear, designed for creating various effects such as explosions, flames, smoke and water. It can handle complex projects by distributing workloads over networked computers. Flux particles, meshes and fields (3D volumetric data) can be exported to Max, Krakatoa, V-Ray, RealFlow and Houdini, among other software. Flux also supports the Alembic file format. Release date has not been announced yet.

Long live Naiad!
Saw their presentation at Siggraph and it looked really promising! Especially the ability to sim over multiple computers. Might be a real alternative to Naiad giong away for a while…
Price model is per core just like Realflow.
Just FYI Anselm, Realflow is NO longer per core, but per machine.
This does look interesting and Realfow does need competition to keep them in check and developing, they seem to get a little lax now they get $1000 a year for every seat. All that support we all use wow what a bargain. Still waiting for 2013…
It looks promising. But I don´t like those kind of Benchmark stating
we´re ten times faster than another kind of software while using
distributed simulations and in this case totally ignoring that Houdini
can do distributed Simulations, too. I´d like to see the results with the
same number of cores.
