London-based artist Jonty Hurwitz has created a number of nano-scale sculptures that are invisible to the human eye using 3D scanning, ZBrush and a multiphoton lithography 3D printing technique. From the artist’s statement “The absolute fact is this: the human eye is unable to see these sculptures. (…) Can you be sure of its existence if your basic senses are telling you that nothing is there?”. More on Jonty Hurwitz’ site.
i actually think these are photoshopped..not real.
i think they printed the sculptures and photoshopped them onto the ant head, hair and inside the needle as a size reference. the sculpture on the ant head is not affected by the DOF or the hair… not the best photoshop job 😉
it would probably be too hard to actually 3d print something onto a hair (yet).
never the less very impressive that 3d printing at this size is possible. i’m sure there is some sort of medical use.
@cresshead I concur, there is an evident pixel density disparity from the ESM and “3d print” of the figure.
