At the recent NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference Otoy previewed version 2 of their unbiased GPU renderer, expected to be released in April. Also announced was application support for After Effects that enables users to import, edit and render 3d scenes in real-time, due later this year. Features of version 2 include:
- Displacement mapping
- Object motion blur
- A new hair and fur primitive
- Pixar’s OpenSubDiv surfaces supported
- Rounded edges shader effect
- Randomise colour on instances
- Improved sky rendering that includes the use of textures as sky background
- Region rendering
- Distributed rendering (on same frame)
- Presets for new display types including VR devices like the Occulus Rift
- Compatibility with Brigade, Otoy’s cloud rendering games technology
