Paintstorm Studio is a new image drawing and painting software that offers a number of natural media features as well as unusual control over brushes and brush strokes. According to the features page it supports the PSD format (though it doesn’t specify to which degree). The software is being offered at an introductory price of $19; a trial version is available. Watch a video and find out more on Paintstorm Studio’s website.
Gave it a try. It’s brilliant – extremely streamlined and artist friendly (similar how ZB is in 3D world). Feels like a great merger of Painter/PS with comfort and hotkeys of both.
Compared to Krita, I would really miss Symmetrical painting option (often needed for quick redrawing). I would also like hotkeys for certain brushes (e.g assigned to 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 )+ some quick way to toggle between blending modes. Also opacity/brush size need to be quickly changeable (like ZB hotkeys U(intensity) or S(size), maya B(brush size)) – i hope i did not miss that. In a nutshell reliance to UI needs to be minimal with maximum customization ability to bind hotkeys for artist comfort.
I really hope they put some effort there and keep pushing the boundaries as it seems like one of the best alternatives to the dinosaurs on subscription. Definitely have my eye on this one.
