Thinkbox Software announced the release of Deadline 7, the latest version of its rendering management system. New features include:
- Built-in VMX – allows to harness resources in both public and private clouds
- Expanded “Jigsaw” multi-region rendering – support for “Jigsaw” feature has been added for Maya, Modo and Rhino
- Updated MongoDB database
- Enhanced UI
- New application support and Ftrack Integration – support has been added for After Effects CC 2014, Arnold for Houdini, Maxon Cinema 4D 16, Corona SDK, Fusion 7, Nuke 9 and RealFlow 2014. Also, Ftrack now integrates with Deadline to enable a seamless render and review data flow, eliminating the need for artists to monitor their renders.
- Slave scheduling and idle detection
- Local slave controls
- Shared slave licensing
- Draft plugin 1.2 – updated version of the lightweight compositing and video processing plug-in designed to automate post-render tasks
- Job dependencies updates – users can now test dependencies through the “Job Dependency View” in the Monitor and view the results shown in dependency nodes
- Streamlined pool and group management
- Pulse redundancy
I wonder if they added the one feature I’ve been hoping (and asking) for a while now…The ability to do boolean filters.
What I would really like to be able to do is show ALL my own jobs but only the Rendering, Queued and Pending jobs of others, all in the same list.
Not sure why you wouldn’t be able to set up such a filter with Deadline 6 or 7.
[Match Any Of The Following]
[User Name] [Equals] “Mitch”
[Status] [Equals] “Rendering”
[Status] [Equals] “Queued”
[Status] [Equals] “Pending”
So this will show jobs that are either yours (regardless of Status), or have Rendering, Queued or Pending Status (regardless of User). Then toggle Ego-Centric sorting and your jobs will be on top.
I agree that there are cases of more complex boolean logic that the current Filter system does not cover, but your example was not one of them. For example, trying to show only Your Failed Jobs and All Pending Jobs But Yours (User==Mitch AND Status==Failed) OR (User!=Mitch AND Status==Pending) is currently not doable since the logical operator (AND or OR) is global for all conditions.
I will ask around to see if there are any plans for just running arbitrary regex expressions or custom Python filters in the near future.
Cheers and Happy Holidays!
