New features in the latest version of Epic Games’ game engine and development tools include: Sequencer has been updated with many cinematography-oriented features, new animation features (Alembic animation import, Pose Asset for blend space functionality for bone poses, Physical Animation Component), VR Editor support for mesh and foliage painting, VR template with settings optimized to run in VR at 90 FPS, platform SDK updates, etc. More on Unreal Engine’s website.
One nearly finished project with Unreal Engine 4.12 and I think I´ll never look back to Unity, it is SO AWESOME that unless I´m forced to, Unity will be forgotten in the drawer…
You and me both, man. Unity is a pain in the ass. The only reason folks stick with it is because so many intermediate programmers are afraid to learn some C++ or Blueprints.
The only situation I can imagine is if I need Vuforia, in that case I will be forced to go back to Unity, but I hope Vuforia is released for Unreal at some point 🙂
Cheers!
I love UE4 to death, but I’m getting a bit weary of seeing too much development focus on VR tools. Still need so many other things than mere VR tools getting top billing all the time.
Bear in mind that the trend now is VR, ´but there is no such big investment in VR, the only big thing has been the VR Template, wich I think it was something needed to have a proper starting point for any app, so is not that bad 🙂
