PlayCanvas is a WebGL games engine that comes in two parts: An MIT licensed open source engine, and a commercial browser-based publishing platform. Having been available for a while in beta, the developers have announced the engine is now mature with the release of version 1.0. (more...)
DaVinci Resolve
Blackmagic Design has announced beta 2 of Davinci Resolve 15. New features include the ability to create sound libraries using the disk database, support for basic HTML text formatting in subtitles, improvements to audio playback for clips with variable speed changes, improvements to FairlightFX plugin performance on all platforms and several performance improvements and bug fixes. SmugMug has announced that it has acquired Flickr, the popular photo hosting site originally launched in 2004 and later bought by Yahoo who were recently acquired by Verizon. According to the FAQ both SmugMug and Flickr will continue as separate sites with no plans for immediate changes. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed. Google's summer of code is an annual initiative where students work for three months on developing open source software with mentors from participating organisations. This years list of open source projects has been announced with several related to 3D and graphics industries including 3DTK point cloud processing software, Appleseed renderer, FFmpeg, Godot game engine, VLC, Inkscape, The Processing Foundation, and of course Blender. Chaos Group has announced V-Ray 3.7.01 for Nuke introducing progressive rendering plus several other features including support for Nuke 11.1, support for light linking, a new multipoint ramp texture, hair shader and hair sampler support and the addition of dome cameras in VRay Camera.
