“To be honest, I wish this site would only allow posts from registered users, the amount of uninformed crap that is being spouted is unbelievable… It wouldn’t be so objectionable if the posters weren’t hiding under a mask of anonymity.”
How about it? Any thoughts? What should be done?
Allowing the Anonymous Coward to post on MaxUnderground was a difficult decision to make. The hope was that, as a news site, the Anonymous Coward would allow insiders the ability to add to news stories and leak information that we normally wouldn’t have had access to — to fill in details and get around the marketspeak. We knew that there would be a lot of lamers posting as Anonymous Coward, and had hoped that MU’s moderation capabilities would have kept that in check. This has worked to some degree, but for the most part it’s been a big failure.
MaxUnderground gets and enormous amount of traffic from around the world and a lot of that traffic is from industry professionals. However, the Anonymous Coward invariably ends up looking like a nine year old with a lot of emotional problems.
I do have some thoughts on some easy changes to make, but before any changes are made, I thought it might be good to open this up for discussion. Thoughts? Comments? Any ideas for a creative way to handle this?
