Oğulcan Sarıca has released 3dsmax-mcp, a new tool for connecting AI agents to Autodesk 3ds Max. The open-source project provides a TCP socket bridge that allows Anthropic’s Claude to access full scene data inside 3ds Max and modify it directly, including geometry, scripts, shaders, and scene organization.
The tool is designed to support scripting and automation rather than full scene creation. Through the MCP server, Claude can write, debug, and iteratively fix MaxScript and Python code, create OSL shader networks, read and manipulate scene data, organize objects and project folders, and assist with tasks such as retargeting bones, creating controllers, wiring parameters, and repairing older scripts. If code execution fails, the agent can continue running in a loop until the issue is resolved.
The repository notes that certain features, such as AI-driven object renaming using Claude subagents, can consume large numbers of tokens and are intended for limited use. The author emphasizes cautious application of the tool, focusing on automation and technical workflows rather than large-scale generative scene building.
