Raylight are launching a crowdfunding campaign to develop v2.0 of their renowned unwrapping tool for 3DS Max and Maya, adding new features and improvements to help with the unwrapping process. More on Indiegogo.

France-based Golaem, developers of the crowd simulation software for Maya, have made available three great reels showing work done by artists and studios using their software. Watch them on their Vimeo channel.

Researchers from The Institute of Science and Technology Austria and Technische Universität München are presenting a new technique for liquid simulation based on a stream function approach. They have made available a video that illustrates the effectiveness of their method for detailed two-phase flow simulations with complex boundaries, detailed bubble interactions and two-way solid-fluid coupling. Incendii's Anselm von Seherr-Thoss has made available a video and making of showing how he produced a number of FX for a recent Gatorade commercial. Tools used include 3DS Max, FumeFX, Particle Flow, ThinkingParticles, AfterBurn, Frost, Krakatoa, V-Ray, RealFlow, Houdini, FinalToon, etc. Watch the video on Vimeo.

Researchers from the University of Luxembourg have found a secure, anonymous way for readers, viewers and gamers to pay for online content without them having to make a cash payment. The method would involve donating a small percentage of CPU power for a limited amount of time to virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. This donation would generate virtual currency payments to the content providers, which could then be converted into standard currencies to remunerate authors, artists and other content generators.
