New features in Autodesk Maya 2017 include: integrated rendering with Arnold (which replaces Mental Ray as the default renderer), Time Editor for creating and editing animation, new nodes and capabilities in the MASH motion graphics toolset, improvements to 3D text tools and custom Workspaces. Also of note, Autodesk has announced Maya LT 2017, the lower-priced, cut-down version of Maya aimed at game developers. Find out more about Maya 2017 and Maya LT 2017 on Autodesk’s website.
Note: the version of Arnold included with Maya only works interactively within Maya. You can render a single frame or a sequence of frames interactively; however, batch rendering and calling from mayabatch.exe are not available and images will appear with a watermark, which can be removed by purchasing Arnold batch render nodes from Solid Angle. More on Autodesk’s website.

This Arnold “Light” version has no license for batch and network rendering and is now the default renderer?
it is not “Light”, it is watermarked (among other limitations). People call it “Demo” Version.
If it is true what i read, then the Problem is not in this Demo Renderer, but in the fact that there is no MentalRay in Maya anymore. You have to buy it from now on, from NVidia and bridge some back into maya.
This means, all Studios who have build the production Pipeline in it, all those guys who render they heads and Dragons and post them in CGTalk – they all have lost their output engine. You can’t, after 2017, do your Job with your old assets anymore.
You have to work now with Maya Software renderer.
This is really, if i understand correctly the latest official documentation, a brutal fall back in neanderthal times.
I am very concerned about the current development.
I was corrected in the other Topic (max Arnold Topic below) with the latest news:
Arnold ist indeed almost fully operational in Maya – for the Workstation you use. You can not distribute or render in Network. It is actually some kind of free renderer for students and freelancers, who can let their one computer render the shot over night or so.
Sorry for the info above with watermarks, i did not have the latest News AD posted during the day.
Lite version with no MR? Less for more.
is Turtle renderer still in Maya 2017?
wonderful
