At the request from various V-Ray users Vladimir Koylazov is generously developing a plugin that implements the blended box mapping technique in 3DS Max. Check out Neil Blevins’ blog for an explanation on how this can significantly speed up your texturing workflow. Interested? Visit the Chaos Group forum and let them know you find the plugin useful. Wow, I’m amazed that InstantUV is kind of resurrected!

That was an interesting thread to read, vlado, if only more developers were as engaging as you are with your users… vray/vlado FTW!

Installed and tested(2 parameters and locked uv space), at the moment is enough but…the point is:
if Vlado coded it in spare time (thanks Vlado)…why Max teams, over the years, bypassed this simply and useful request? VIP user voices as Neil Blevins needs to be listened 😉

Why do it yourself when someone else will do it for you is Autodesk’s motto.

Too bad the curvature map was a dissapointment

We never intended to do a curvature map in the first place; it was just a shader that someone wanted in V-Ray. There are other, more suitable solutions anyways.

Hi all,
This blended box mapping would be a great addition to Max.
We are indeed very happy to have a developer who listens to user requests.

Cheers,
Per

There’s a newer version of the texture for anyone interested:

Nice one Vlado…have you considered to implement several blend image filters like multiply, screen etc(apart the reclamed noise slot)?

Vlado, this is really great. Is there (even the slightest) possibility to have this working with scanline/other engines? Would you consider porting and selling it then?

I agree with Marcin, would be great to have a universal tool for scanline and older V-Ray versions… Overall it’s great that after such a long time Neil’s persistence pays off!

So Vray only…bummer.

Sort of the whole story of Max in a nutshell….want this cool feature? Great! It’s available as a third party add-on which requires a different third party plugin.
