German artist Andreas Esau has generously released for free the first public version of his great set of tools for implementing a 2D cutout animation workflow in Blender, providing improvements over features offered by methods such as After Effects’ Puppet tools.
The Cutout Animation Tools suite is divided into three components: Photoshop sprite exporter (exports Photoshop layers with position information to Blender), Blender add-on and Godot importer. Thanks to Blender’s great animation system the add-on offers a powerful solution to create 2D animations, and also allows to transfer them easily to the open source Godot engine (the exported files could also be imported into Unreal or Unity, if importers where coded for those engines). Watch a preview video on YouTube and find out more on GitHub.
