Google has announced Daydream, a platform for high quality mobile virtual reality. Google is working with a number of smartphone manufacturers to create a specification for Daydream-ready phones. These smartphones will enable VR experiences with high-performance sensors for smooth, accurate head tracking and fast response displays to minimize blur. Daydream-ready phones will take advantage of VR mode in Android N, a set of powerful optimizations for virtual reality built right into Android. Google has also created a reference design for a headset and controller. More on Google’s website.
Also of note, Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 4 support for Daydream. More on Unreal Engine’s website.
