Houdini 15 released

Side Effects Software has released the latest version of its 3D software, Houdini 15. Houdini 15 brings a lot of enhancements and new tools including Crowd Ragdoll characters, Houdini Engine 2.0, Distributed VFX, faster rendering with Mantra, plus much more. i wish they had some kind of CAT toolkit inside Houdini..
the more i look into houdini the more i realize its kinda like super advanced version of 3dsmax

Yep, but even now in Houdini lacking tools for polymodeling.

It’s just the most amazing update I have ever seen for any software! And with a Indie version at 200$ why not buy it? I did! I can use it for all what max can’t do like varying viscosity liquid like lava sand and snow simulations and import them in max via PRT export and alembic and vray proxy. What amaze me is that houdini does everything without any plugin! If you want to do the same with max it will not cost you 200$ but 20 000$… And you will have to install a shitload of plugins and try to make them work together! Which works for me right now but cost me too much.

I agree, some king of CAT or HIK inside Houdini would make it better for animation, I think eventually it will have something similar because now they have to fill the gaps in classic workflows like modeling, character animation and Viz.
But all those are easy targets, so they will be reached at some point, soon I hope.

Again powerful release. SESi touched nearly every corner of the beast.
@juang please take a look at the CHOP context. This alone is a hole universe.

ANd with 15 they have done a lot of work on then anmation area.

And I think traditionell modelling is against the nature of houdini. but for non destructiv, repetive modelling task its great.
I.e. Architectural modeling, you could build a lowresmodel house in houdini, which drives smaller modelling assets (like stuck or detailed bricks). And with this assets I would go with max, modo or zbrush.
