Foundry has released Katana 3.1 with improved 3D scene processing performance and changes to the Alembic library allowing multi-threaded rendering plugin’s to be up to 5x faster. This release also updates the 3DelightNSI rendering plug-in with volume rendering speed and quality improvements as well as fast multiple scattering support and a new 3Delight Principled shader.
The viewport launched in Katana 3.0 has seen some improvements and common tasks are now accessible by hotkeys, and facesets support shader assignment. It now uses Qt5 UI library and OpenSubDiv 3.1 to bring Katana into full compliance with the VFXRP 2017 standard.
