Digital Anarchy has released Transcriptive, a new plugin for Premiere Pro that uses AI to automatically transcribe audio. The resultant text is fully searchable, making it easier for editors to find parts of a clip or sequence. The plugin doesn’t actually perform the transcription itself, it provides an integrated connection to Speechmatics and IBM Watson, two services that promise up to 95% and 85% accuracy respectively. The plugin costs $299 and there’s a transcription cost on top of that of $0.07 a minute for Speechamatics, and $0.02 for Watson, although the latter include 1000 minutes free per month. Actually, the IBM demo at https://speech-to-text-demo.mybluemix.net already works really well. A 5 min audio file (single speaker, no background noise) was transcribed with only four mistakes. Having said that, the text recognition available in youtube is also pretty good (and comes with a nice editor and export functions).
