(Updated) Adobe announced the release of Creative Suite 5.5. Read the whole PR and find out more information.
Adobe software incorporates improvements to HTML5 authoring, Flash, digital publishing and video tools as well as new capabilities to deliver content to tablets. With this release, Adobe changes from a 18-24 month upgrade cycle, to a 12 month one, and starts offering a subscription-based service. Does that ring a bell? More information and a Production Premium Feature Tour video available at Adobe.
LOL, their subscription plan is a joke! For instance the production premium suite annual is $85 a month for 12 months @ $1020, why on earth would you do this?If you own 1 package in the suite you get it forever for $30 more.
I tell ya their marketers (err… marketeers) have always been clueless and prey on the their user-bases stupidity. The smart user-base has seen their crap ever since they released these “suites” in 2003. Adding apps, removing apps, lame upgrade paths, (I license more half the suite individually, still no deal)
They want $400 bucks for a 0.5 release!
The want $180 for a 0.5 for AE!
The last time they did this was when AE 5.5 came out and it was a $99 upgrade and I tell you it was way more worth it than this one, even with rates adjusted for inflation.
Unbelievable 😡 Argh these guys make me mad.
Just making more money with a 0.5 release every year now, if you are one of those that Adobe wishes you are, you’ll be paying $100+ more every year for your upgrades. On the 18-24 cycle it only cost you $300 a year for full next release upgrade.
I understand companies need to make money, it just seems you get less and less for more and more.
Sorry my “Rant” tags were omitted from my post
Completely agree, John. It seems to be a bad common trend, more than a few companies that make great software and earn a good share of the market later end up punishing the customers that got them there with these “deals”.
It’s probably due to how the goals of the company change as it grows, and that the ppl coming up with these policies have nothing to do with those developing or using the software anymore.
I don’t think they’re calculating properly how much the reputation of the company is adversely affected and the negativity this generates among users. Sooner than later it will affect their business.
I completely agree! This whole CS5 has basically been like a beta release. And they keep on promising — we’ll fix everything in 5.5. I just found out today that half point upgrade, that supposedly will fix all the 5.0 problems is not free — it’s $400!
5.5 works flawless here.. maybe your system is crap when you think it´s a beta.
im more concerned about 3D Max 2012 and its future…. because that is realy a crappy and buggy beta release.
costs even more then adobes CS 5.5.
@Peter: Gavin seems to be mentioning bugs in CS5, not 5.5. That being said, please be respectful when disagreeing with other ppl’s comments.
