Blackmagic Design has released the beta of its compositing package, Fusion 8. This latest release is now available for both Mac and Windows. According to the press release, the new version brings Mac OS X compatibility for the first time, as well as many improvements to the UI. Comments on BMD’s forums mention this beta has a number of bugs. You can download the beta and read more about Fusion 8 on the Blackmagic Design website.
And nobody knows what’s new because Blackmagic seems to be allergic to changelogs…
They also hate help-files…. since Eyeon take-over, the complete help database and wiki have been deleted and not replaced. If you try to program in Fusion script or python or lua, i wish you a lot of success in finding information.
There is a backup online somewhere. I’m pretty sure it’s noted somewhere in the forums, if not in the official than here: http://www.steakunderwater.com/wesuckless/
But imho Scripting in fusion was never fun anyways, never really got into it =/
Huh, so windows based applications CAN become cross platform, well I’ll be damned, never though that was possible, with me being a Max user and all.
Don’t get your hopes up, black magic and autodesk are two very different beasts, one realising it needs to expand to compete with the foundry, the other already owning it all, or buying it, so couldn’t care less about how you want to use their products.
Ad and BMD are different beasts but have same goals…
Fusion 8 beta brings only three news:
– mac version;
– orrible(?) flat gui;
– old and new bugs.
A Fusion 8 stable release will be a more better news (expecially if will have new tools that reduce the gaps against Ae and Nuke).
I’m very disappointed…..
Their big pride is a mac version while the super important step is the linux one. (big and main clients = linux, the answer to equation is not hard…)
I was expecting a complete revamp of the GUI and a new workflow closer to Resolve, but it is exactly the same thing a fusion 6.4 !!
I think it’s a big mistake from BMD, because this version was their chance to put fusion on the rails again with tons of compatibility breaks that would have been accepted against the idea of a very new and improved software. Now they are trapped with compatibility duties for a long time.
The developer needed a year to get familiar with the code and change the internal workings to be friendlier towards mac and linux. This is a great node based program and they are practically giving it away for $1K and much better than Nuke Vanilla at 3K.
