Unity announces discontinuation of Ziva product sales and support
Unity Technologies has informed users of Ziva VFX, Ziva Real-Time, Ziva Face Trainer, and other related products that these offerings will no longer be actively sold or supported. For current active subscribers, Unity is providing an opportunity to convert their existing licenses into a five-year term through the Ziva customer portal. This extension allows users to continue utilizing their products beyond the original expiration date of their licenses.
The move is part of Unity’s broader strategy, described as an ongoing company reset, focusing on its core areas: the Unity Editor and Runtime, Unity Cloud, and Monetization Solutions. Unity believes that by narrowing its focus to these key sectors, it will better meet the needs of its community.
Additionally, Unity has secured an agreement with DNEG who will receive an exclusive perpetual license to the Ziva intellectual property. However, Unity retains ownership of all technology acquired from Ziva Dynamics and plans to explore how best to incorporate it into its core offerings over time.

The monster vomiting all the things it ate when it was hungry
in the end, it is no surprise. Same destiny from Atdsk. products.
I’m puzzled by why big companies acquire cutting-edge technology only to destroy it afterward. In the case of Ziva, a unique technology with no comparable alternatives on the market, the decision made by profit-driven minds has unfortunately led to the demise of a remarkable piece of innovation. Perhaps the best course of action would have been to open-source the code, allowing the global community to carry on developing Ziva. It’s truly disheartening news.
Simple really, management decisions made by one leadership of the time forecasting profits by the acquisition are immediately reversed when internally shuffled by a new leadership decision, in the midst of panic as to how to cut down losses or put an appearance of profit, multiple products go out the window. In this case i would suspect they did not see major profit from Ziva ( just think of how many users there are using this vs cost of maintaining development) not too many i would assume lr deemed unworthy, hence cut it off.
I would rather cut off upper leadership bloated bonuses than a product like this but that’s just fantasy.
