20th Century Fox uses AI to predict a movie’s audience from its trailer
NVIDIA has posted an article explaining how 20th Century Fox is using deep learning to predict a film’s audience based on the trailer.
The system was trained on historical movie attendance records to “find non-trivial associations between the video trailer features, and future audiences choices after the movie releases in theatres or on streaming services”. Its analysis of the trailers is based on the ability to extracts features such as “colour, illumination, faces, objects, and landscapes” to predict accurate attendance for existing movies, and it is hoped, yet to be released movies.
