The Blender to V-Ray scene exporter project is advancing at a fast pace and has been attracting a lot of interest from Blender users. Check out some renders created recently using the V-Ray/Blender combination. For more information visit the official V-Ray/Blender home page, forums, and a discussion thread at Blenderartists.org. Blender’s official entry into the architectural visualization industry (as well as other industries) could happen sooner than expected, Blender 2.5 development is progressing smoothly, along with its much publicized UI rewrite intended to make it a more standardized and user friendly software. This should make it an appealing option for many 3D users. Autodesk in turn may help boost Blender’s adoption significantly by continuing to offer restrictive policies users are finding hard to justify such as country-based licensing (in a globalized world), steep price variations among different countries, and policies that don’t allow reselling of its software. With renowned artists and production houses already taking a look at Blender, let us hope Autodesk takes notice of these trends.
