Itoo Software has shared a case study on LUMA, a graduation short film developed by students at New3dge, a computer graphics school in Paris. Produced in 2025 over nine months by a team of nine students, the Solarpunk-inspired film was created as part of the school’s final-year program.
The environment team used 3ds Max and ForestPack extensively to build six main locations, including countryside landscapes, cityscapes, and interior spaces. The tool was applied to scatter vegetation, props, and architectural elements, with workflows designed to balance detail with performance. Students combined ForestPack with 3ds Max, V-Ray, Houdini, Substance Painter, ZBrush, and other tools in the production pipeline.
The project was designed to simulate professional studio conditions, requiring students to work collaboratively across environments, characters, and effects. ForestPack’s role was central to developing stylized yet coherent environments that matched the film’s visual direction.
