Autodesk acquires LoUPE/Tangent Labs team
Updated to add comments from Autodesk about the future development of LoUPE
Autodesk has announced they are to acquire Tangent Labs/LoUPE, a suite of cloud-based animation production pipeline tools. LoUPE combines several components of the digital production pipeline in the cloud, including asset management, project management, review and collaboration, render management, reporting and analytics, virtual workstations and more.
LoUPE was originally created for large scale animation projects using Blender into which it is fully integrated, however, there is also a native plugin for Maya. According to the project’s website, there were also plans for supporting Houdini, Unreal, and USD in future releases. Autodesk has provided the following assurances about the future development of LoUPE:
“This acquisition does not change any work or plans already in progress. We believe that a cloud-based production ecosystem for Media & Entertainment (M&E) is the right way to tackle the future needs of the industry. It is critical to embrace the third-party ecosystem and we will work with the LoUPE team to understand their current and planned integrations to ensure we support the needs of the Artist community as we integrate the technology into our portfolio. Cloud-based workflows make it easier for artists, producers and supervisors to work more efficiently and scale with the pace of production. This is a journey we are taking in collaboration with our customers, our partners, industry organizations and even other software vendors.”
