Autodesk has announced a live webinar with the 3DS Max team will take place on March 25. The list of topics might give some indication of what can be expected in Max 2021 including Arnold & Physical Material as defaults, viewport updates, bake to texture tools, modelling updates and more. There are also presentations from Ubisoft, Hoare Lea, Scanline VFX and a Live Panel Q&A. Sign up to attend here.

In this Webinar, the team will expose how Autodesk chains them in the torture departments while the upper management whips them not to code more than two lines a day in order to keep the software from getting more than one or two redundant features a year, the whip is made of leather and has the words “Rent me” inscribed on it.

Other presenters from Ubisoft will declare that they have already started implementing Blender out of desperation in their pipeline, because their recent disaster of woke games failed to capture player’s imagination and bring them the financial income they had anticipated, and the studio nearly went bankrupt couple of times while paying millions in licenses to an almost equally greedy and unimaginative company creating as many features in the software they build their games on as their games themselves.
Equally the rate of decline of these two companies from once great en-devours has also been in parallel throughout these decades.

Scanline VFX will showcase their fluid dynamics… (I couldn’t help it).

Dont be so negative…its not constructive at all. 3ds max for all its flaws is still my favourite tool of choice and I bet I can get things done in it faster then any other 3D software with use of scripts and plugins of course. so stop the negativity its too easy….

Lol. So it’s your favorite tool and you “BET” you can do things faster with it (whatever that means or should prove) – all this of course with the help of scripts and plugins…sorry, I can’t stop laughing, you almost got me 😀

You know 3ds Max has got a lot of complaints these years for a reason, right?

complaints…complaints…its a constant with cg artists. Yes inovation hasnt been as good as it could but the program is stable and gets the job done efficiently and many times better then other apps. so propose solutions, write scripts/plugins instead of complaining all day…

complaints are a part of UX feedback. If you got a lot of them, and AD has quite a steady stream, then you know that your customers are not happy. Simple as that. There has been no essential development of the product since around 2014. Te product is stable, oh yes, and soon it will be stable dead.

Hey guest I’m Guest, tell you what mate, no one’s being negative we just don’t like to say its raining when someone spits at us that’s all.

If you are happy paying Autodesk 1000’s of your hard earned cash then not the community, at the very least we have the right to b*tch about it because this is at this point theft and a hostage situation by a greedy corporate entity.

We all have been using max and still support it and earn our living with it. We know how powerful the software is and the potential it can have which is EXACTLY why we express our opinions so vividly!

Can I request Autodesk addresses long term pricing of MAX indie as well in this presentation.
Specifically if 3DS Max Indie is going to be rolled out internationally, and become a permanent part of Autodesk’s lineup.

Feature updates are only as good as the pricing policy of the product.

Permanent doesn’t exist.

You can’t use that line… I believe its trademarked by Softimage XSI

I fear the dev team ( as far i understood its a webinar with the dev team, or at least only with productive people at autodesk, not marketing people or other bla bla robots ) has no say in things like licensing or pricing policies.
But of course i fully support your request and would like to hear something about indie too. After the final EOL of any possibility to renew my perpetual in 2021, the indie licensing scheme is the only chance for Autodesk to get any money from me ever again…
Of course i will not renew my perpetual this year, which is due in summer

They will delay Bifrost until majority of perpetual licenses are gone.

why was it given to maya early enough, if thats the case

Meli

Because their users, unlike 3dsmax users, are more technical minded and can handle a complex visual programming language and solvers.Just like Houdini users. 😉
3dsmax users wan`t clicky, clicky->effect appear, you know?

No, 3dsMax users are just smart in the way they work it. Why have a 1000 node setup when you can get PheonixFD with an interface that just works!

Why have gibberish clutter on screen? just get TYflow! You want fluid interaction with full physics and destruction? just combine TYflow with Phoenix and you are good to go. No Bifrost in the world is going to provide that kind of powerful feature set inside one software (with exception of Houdini).

This is why Max users get the job done faster with equal or better results and with far less specialized team members. Also they are some of the most versatile users out there, because they have used the swiss army knife of 3d software which has damn good plugins made most of the time by artist driven developers.

In Maya to get the same thing done you need 2 RnD departments and 24/7 support on standby.

Yeah, sure then bitch why feature x is not possible. Max users…

Guest

Sure I admit one feature only Okay maybe two:

Muscle system
Better Rigging tools.

Also Don’t forget only recently Houdini got its good muscle system and they had poor rigging tools as well as modeling.
Only recently max got Tyflow and a more solid updated fluid system like PhoenixFD To be used in conjunction.

But yes The only thing I want for Max and all base issues solved would be a muscle system and updated rigging tools.

The rest Plugins can handle it all and can handle them better than Autodesk will ever deliver with any potential native tools of the future.

Yes we are paying a thousand maybe two more but these are perpetual until further updates and they get the job done for years. I consider any Max investment to come with Vray and Phoenix and a few other essentials. Arnold is now very good in Max and Vray may not be required in the future for some users. So that may be one down.

If there were Muscle plugins I wouldn’t be complaining but there are none for Max absolutely none! which amazes me as to why Autodesk or anyone else wont invest in them and make money out of something that has zero competition in the market for many years now!

AFTER HOW LONG NOW? EVEN THE AUTOMATIC RETOPOLOGY TOOL THAT WAS DEMONSTRATED IN ONE OF THE EVENTS YOU SHOWCASED ON YOUR CHANNEL ABOUT A YEAR AGO, HAS ALREADY BEGUN TO HAPPEN IN MAYA WHILE WE ARE STILL WAITING. I THINK THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR FOR ME NOW.

Autodesk are already beyond the pale. They’ve lost so much confidence from their userbase, I can imagine that this rearguard action isn’t going to achieve much. Let’s see…
