Prague-based Render Legion announced that it is expanding the Corona Renderer development team and that it will be releasing new versions of its renderer for 3DS Max, Cinema 4D and the first public alpha version for Maya. Progress with Blender integration is also expected to advance and the company is evaluating the possibility of SketchUp and Modo integration.
Also of note, Render Legion has disclosed details regarding their recent collaboration with AMD in developing a 3DS Max integration plugin for AMD’s FireRender, a GPU renderer developed by AMD primarily for AMD FirePro GPUs.
Finally, Render Legion mentions that 9 in 10 of the company’s customers have chosen its FairSaaS licensing model over box licenses, and only about 1% of customers opted for the perpetual box without subscription. It then states that the “traditional perpetual license model is dead”. It should perhaps be noted that Corona is a renderer, and switching from one renderer to another and replacing materials is not the same as losing access to one’s files if one happens to drop from subscription, as is the case with some other applications. The statement may not apply to other types of software.

As much as I like Corona and their team, I’m not sure about this AMD thing… In my history book, other examples of ‘collaborations’ between chip vendors and render engine developers were rather unfortunate.
Marcin,
I don’t think it will change anything with Corona for CPU.
I see it as another platform to work with.
It will more than likely mean in practice, that they get free hardware and assistance porting corona to opencl.
