IMO it comes a bit late to the party, because of the licensing changes and issues we are having with Autodesk, but it’s always great news and a cool initiative 🙂

Cheers.

@Guillermo

Then thing is that this render engine is pretty advanced with things like full volumetric rendering capabilities, hair support, layering, shadow catcher and such things, AND it’s free and will be free forever because it’s licensing, also it’s development is also supported by the Blender foundation so it will keep evolving as time goes by.

So it’s not just another render engine, it’s a full featured render engine completely free and open source, that’s the difference 🙂

I was mistaken in one thing, there is no Shadow Catcher yet, but AFAIK it’s in active development and if you are a bit of a tinkerer you can compile your own Blender version with some patches like the in proess Shadow Catcher shader.

Cheers!

I’d rather someone develop a tool that lets me use my Max plugins in other packages…Unless this new release is staggering more will jump ship.

They begged for Hudson to come back…who are they going to beg for when the new Max comes out and it’s just as uneventful as the last? (Note: I give them credit for MCG, but development has stagnated on Max, and bringing in a series of old names hasn’t done a thing)

FANTASTIC news, I’ve been using blender for a while with cycles and prefer it to mental ray..so having Cycles arrive to 3dsmax is just flippin amazing!

CUDa and CPU already supported…nice one!

and…FREE
