Flowbox has announced a new version of its node-based rotoscoping software. Version 1.6 introduces F-spline curves which enabled the ability to combine beziers & X-splines in additional to several new time-saving and performance improvements, including:
- F-Splines – new shape representation for ultimate flexibility: combine unique powers of Beziers and X-Splines in a single curve.
- Hard Edge Checker – will save the day when dealing with motion blur.
- Pause Viewer – you can now freeze a selected Viewer to achieve real-time playback when using multiple Viewers.
- Crop – now you can crop your 4K plate to save memory and keep the best performance
- Corner Pin Import – easily import Corner Pin from Mocha or Nuke
- Render to separate channels – split your roto into separate channels to save on rendering time.
Pretty sure they would gain so many more customers without the pathetic rental only policy. I won’t touch it until there’s a perpetual license. period.
Yup. Same thoughts here (i won’t touch it – and no – i don’t think this is important for this company if somebody won’t touch it but sure i want to say it loud too so they will know that there is more who would like to buy this thing and those who think that those rental prices are pathetic) – it should be perpetual license. There is nothing that much innovating compared to mocha pro and silhouettefx and their prices, these also have lots of other features: remove module, 3d camera tracking and many ohter things so rotoscoping is just a small part of price. Flowbox sure looks pretty streamline for rotoscoping workflow, but its highly priced for rental only, i would love to have option to buy perpetual license – maybe 500€ would be good enough, then i would consider upgrading the software each year (maybe 150-200€ would be ok for upgrade price) until there’s no more innovations or free alternatives have made their software as good – for example blender, it has good rotoscoping tools just like black magic fusion and these softwares development is much faster than flowbox development speed but with this i mean all features – so it might take long time before these softwares will have complete and advanced roto tools. Flowbox make great development but its still behind from mocha pro and silhouettefx. Those features which are mentioned in v1.6 are features which are used to see in free updates, so rental price is crazy, half year development and few new features… i can’t see how that rental price is affordable for customers, and why rental software release point updates 1.5, 1.6? So there will be 2.0 version but its not upgrade, its just rental software.. i don’t get it.. but sure software developers can name their software how they like and name versions, but these doesn’t sound attractive anyway…
