Chilton Webb has released Glycon, a new tool that allows the user to turn their VR rig into a motion capture platform, for games and animations. According to the developer it works by mixing your movements with a full body IK system, and exports FBX files based on that. The tool currently supports HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, with support for Windows Mixed Reality promised soon. A free version is available with FBX export disabled or prices start from $49 for the Indie version. Find out more on Liberty3D.com.
Tested the demo only: The tool maps the motion of your arm and head on an ik-rig. No tracking of the legs, no rotation of the torso/figure, gestures via pressing button (no gesture recognition). If you move in the room, the ik-rig “steps” to the new position. MoCap jittering seems moderate/good – but the demo has no export feature to check it in an animation software.
Due to the above possible usage seems a bit limited to me – but you could use it for capturing e.g. a tv presenter (and animate the fingers later manually). So check it out if you are looking for an animation solution of that kind of movements.
