New features in Lightmap Limited’s custom HDR map creation software include:
- Render View which initiates an interactive rendering session in the connected 3D software and displays the results directly in HDR Light Studio’s interface. This feature supports V-Ray, Corona, Arnold and Redshift in 3DS Max and V-Ray, Arnold, Renderman and Redshift in Maya.
- Improvements to area lights performance when using HDR Light Studio’s native renderer.
- Connection workflow improvements for 3DS Max and Maya. HDR Light studio can set up IBL lighting in your scene automatically.
- Support for Redshift and VRAYforC4D 3 in Cinema 4d.
- HiDPI display support
- LightWave 2018 Connection support
- Speed improvements renders containing Procedural Sky
- Includes a selection of demo scenes
Nice upgrade! But HDR Light Studio is way too expensive for what it does.
I mean it’s more expensive than a renderer like V-Ray or Redshift, that does not make sense.
And if I’m not wrong, with one licence you can’t run two instance of HDR Light Studio on the same computer.
Agreed about the expense>function ratio. I guess its one of those packages that if you need it, you can (and will) pay.
This is cool but I’m still not sold 100% on HDR light studio. I do a lot of cars on backplates work and find that I always wanted more from hdr light studio in this area. Often when doing this kind of work I need to clone out objects so they do not appear in reflections or move and feature to the other side of the hdri. Most of the work for these kinds of shots is done in photoshop/retouching the hdr. Often the HDR can look really different from what was originally shot. The bottleneck is constantly saving and re-importing the hdri. If hdr light studio could allow for layer masks/cloning/colour corrections/warping of the hdri whilst rendering it would be so much more useful.
Having support for an integrated render view is not that handy for me at the moment. I guess these features were implemented based on user feedback but I’m personally not that impressed.
Maybe someone will figure out how to make a live Photoshop bridge one day….That would be perfect for me but potentially impossible to make given the age and limitations of Photoshop.
It’s a shame not to see HDRLS reach its potential. It is still a unique and well designed tool but I can easily live without it.
