Instant Terra 1.0 released

Wysilab  has announced the release of Instant Terra 1.0, a new tool for generating terrain meshes and maps. The standalone node-based application promises to allow artists to create terrain using real time full resolution previews with size and resolution limited only by the license you choose. Some of the features listed include:

  • The ability to mix terrains of different sizes together and use a mask to drive the composition.
  • The ability to paint masks directly in the 3D view and see the results in real time on the final terrain.
  • The ability to bulk import input data, including images, heightmaps and DEM files.
  • The ability to create and blend masks from heights and slopes, generate circular or pyramid masks, create masks from curves, and paint masks in the 3D view
  • The ability to change the size and resolution of the terrain dynamically.
  • Erosion tools to simulate natural environment effects.
  • Sample files to help users experiment with the features.
  • The ability to export maps and masks to tiff, png, raw, tga, bmp, or OpenExr;  and meshes as FBX files.
  • The ability to combine terrains using blend, sum, subtract average and linear operations.

Instant Terra has 4 license tiers, each one with a different cap on the maximum terrain size.

Rental prices start at the Indie edition for $24.90 per month, capped at 2k output, next there’s small business pricing at $79 per months for 4k output, thirdly, Professional licenses cost $249 per month, with an 8K cap and finally the enterprise version offers unlimited resolution for $550 per month (plus the ability to import RGBA Files and batch import).

Renting multiple licenses or for longer terms reduces prices. Find out more on the Wysilab website.

LOL, this is neither innovative nor realistic …let alone competitive with the rental option only

Quadspinner’s Gaea will be released soon, in Q2 2018
https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuadSpinnerGaea/about/
judging by the presentation video it seems to be game-changer
pre-ordering will be possible tomorrow – perpetual AND rental

There was a German company who made a nice plugin for 3ds max which would creat textures (like Walls and Tiles) nad thier business plan was rental model at about 250 Euros per year.
As I just said “THERE WAS” – seems that no one opted for their product.
Not this is a 249 US$ per month ? LOL

They’re out of their minds. 8k is a standard heightmap size these days, and no one is paying $249 PER MONTH for terrain software when you have things like World Machine (slow but reliable), Houdini Indie and World Creator available.

never say “no one is paying…”
Apple is selling “Workstations” with shitty old Hardware for really high prices 🙂
A nice Interface and good marketing is sometimes enough to find enough customers for your product.
Its like everything, you could buy identical products with different prices

While I don’t agree with their pricing (almost the same as world machine), they do seem to have customers lined up. The developers are ex ubisoft employees, so they probably have connections there. Also, there are indeed people in the game dev industry frustrated with world machine developer’s habit of disappearing for a year at times. Gaea is still yet to mature, and world creator while flashy is still not the first choice for those migrating from world machine. This one is basically world machine 2.2 clone on steroids. Customers will come, especially if they drop their prices. At the same price, world machine is still the best bet! After quadspinner’s gaea is released, all of them will look outdated. They have at most a month to build their customer base, if they don’t drop prices, they will soon be history.

Lol! I misread the pricing. It’s a rental! Yep, way overpriced for the value they offer!

Maya at around $150 per month if you shop around. Version 1.0 of this software $550 per month at 8k res… 😂
I could generate high res terrain in Zbrush for much less and it will be my own creation.

An example for rental prices gone insane.

yeah this is some cracksmoking pricing there. not only are the prices absurd, highest i have seen in rental software infact, but the images and feature set is beyond laughable. its really actually funny.

Professional licenses for $249 per month? What do they smoke?

What actually disappoints me is not the pricing, but the fact that they absorbed not only good inspiration, but also bad inspiration from WorldMachine. The WorldMachine suffers from very clumsy, buggy UI that is lacking in many ways. For example the fixed sliders without manual numerical input, or height transformation editor that requires you to manually draw an imprecise jagged curve instead of giving you basic point curve editor.

This just makes me look forward to Gaea that much more 🙂

One more future victim of the ridiculous pricing scheme with a rental only model in mind… I wonder if devs think we are idiots… 9.9
