Metropolitan Museum’s MediaLab interns have been working on a project designed to help guide visitors through the works of art of the renowned New York museum. The project combines various technologies that improve visitors’ experience at the Met and has recently been pushed forward by interns Xinyi Deng and Rodrigo Narciso, turning it into a working prototype that shows the best route to find your favorite works of art. A detailed article is available describing their contributions, and the steps that are still needed to turn their prototype into a fully-functional mobile application. More on the Met’s website.

Why is this here?

Not that I have a problem with this being here but this does not have anything cg related AFIK and the technology and the app itself is pretty classic and similar to what you can see in other museums like the Thyssen in Madrid, in fact we did an app for the Thyssen that is much more advanced in regards of technology, however it was not a general app but an interactive game for teenagers where they were able to solve a mystery going from art piece to art piece, all of this using augmented reality, but this app seems pretty classic and standard to me.
Anyways, not a problem with this news, just want to understand why is it here.

Thank you for the feedback, Juan. No news item will be of interest to 100% of the audience, so even if you didn’t find it especially appealing please keep in mind others may do. We did consider it interesting ourselves and it has actually received a lot of clicks from readers. That being said, we do take note of your comment and appreciate your taking a moment to write your feedback.
