Microsoft announces Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Microsoft has announced Windows 10 Pro, a version of Windows 10 aimed at workstations and servers.  Features include:
  • Resilient file system (ReFS) which is intended to be resistant to data corruption, optimised for large data volumes, auto-correcting and more.
  • Persistent memory to provide apps with better performance working non-volatile memory modules (NVDIMM-N) hardware.
  • SMB Direct to support the use of network adapters that have Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) capability. Network adapters that have RDMA can function at full speed with very low latency, while using very little CPU.
  • Expanded hardware support which enables users to be able to run Windows 10 Pro for Workstations on devices with high performance configurations including server grade Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron processors, with up to 4 CPUs and memory up to 6TB.
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations will released in Q3 2017.  Find out more on Microsoft’s windows blog.

The question here is: how will be the upgrade from 10 pro?

Cheers

Well, this explains why the latest Windows 10 updates have completely mangled memory and CPU priority management.

I’ve found it’s no longer possible to keep a Windows 10 PC running smoothly while also rendering or simulating.

Why would that be?

Oh, I see, they’ve f***** up the current version so they can sell us a new version that works the previous version.

We are running 15 render nodes and workstations using dual Xeons with the current Win 10, and have not experienced any slow downs. Rendering just as fast as they did with Win 7. PhoenixFD sims were always unpredictable for speed with NUMA, so we use a i7 setup for that, which also uses Win 10. Not saying that we aren’t experiencing any issues with Win 10, but not CPU or memory wise.

I could be mistaken but isn’t this version more oriented for Enterprise-like level customers who are willing to dish out major $ for an OS?

I’m no expert but it does sound like the kind of thing the City and their trading algorithms would snap up.

Just one – Microsoft killing Win 7 like a XP. And in 5-6 years all will must using win10 with a 90% of senseless stuff and user-enemy environment.
I don’t take Win 10 even free.
