LAS VEGAS, Apr. 8 – Eyematic announced today that Eyematic FaceStation 1.5 is now available for purchase through Digimation, Inc. Eyematic, a leading
provider of visual communication software, made the announcement in conjunction with the release today of FaceStation 1.5. Digimation is Discreet‘s Preferred Plug-in publisher and has developed and distributed graphics software since 1992.

FaceStation 1.5 is the highly anticipated computer vision-based 3D facial animation software suite from Eyematic. FaceStation uses Eyematic’s patented computer vision software engines to automatically recognize and track facial expressions from either a live video camera or pre-recorded video clips. In real-time actual facial expressions are analyzed, captured and used to animate fully shaded 3D models in Discreet™ 3ds max™. No motion capture hardware, facial markers or offline rendering processes are required. Prior to FaceStation, realistic 3D facial animation was limited to a handful of high-end projects with the requisite large budgets.

“FaceStation is the result of over seven years of effort by some of the best researchers and software developers in the world,” said Jim Stewartson, chief technical officer of Eyematic. “We’re pleased to join forces with industry leader Digimation in order to bring FaceStation to market.”

“The computer vision sensing technology in FaceStation is truly remarkable,” said David Avgikos, president of Digimation, Inc. “We believe FaceStation will bring high quality facial animation within the reach of many more artists than ever before possible.”

FaceStation also includes Eyematic Avatar Editor™, allowing the creation of ready-to-animate characters complete with morph targets simply using front and side photographs. The FaceStation 1.5 software suite for Discreet 3ds max is now available through the Digimation web site www.digimation.com as well as through authorized resellers. Here at the National Association of Broadcasters annual trade show, Eyematic also demonstrated a version of FaceStation for Alias | Wavefront® Maya® that will be available this summer.
