Magical Face software to debut in San Antonio this week
Sega has announced that it plans to show its face at Siggraph 2002 this week in San Antonio – literally.
The company will be demonstrating a new animation package called Magical Face at the show, which it claims will dramatically reduce development time on games and CG films.
The software uses detailed maps of the skeletal structure of a face to produce facial expressions and lip-synching for human characters automatically. Expressions take into account body and facial design, and the software can lip-synch automatically to spoken dialogue.
According to Sega, the new software is between 150 and 300 times faster at performing these tasks than current development solutions – a bold claim indeed, and one that CG artists will be able to investigate for themselves at Siggraph.
