Fnord software has announced that ProEXR, their popular OpenEXR plugins for Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects, are now open source under a GPL licence. Although several of the plugins for Premiere and After Effects were already included with the host applications, the full suite is now free for everyone. This includes the previously commercial Photoshop plugin as well as After Effects plugins for processing non-RGBA data. According to the developer this decision was made in part by the recent release of Exr-IO which provides similar features, though is currently only available for Windows.
