RUIN short film

Mar 16, 2012 by CGP Staff

The historic chase scene is revisited in this Sci-Fi post-apocalyptic short directed by Wes Ball, with great CG work, editing and directing. Produced at LA-based Oddball Animation studio, with most of the modeling and animation done by the director himself. Watch it on Vimeo. (Note: created with Modo and Lightwave)

Very impressive work, i love !!
(The flying drone is just over textured, so it’s less realistic than the rest. I’ve preferred their early design; the heavy plane. The actual design is just too over used.)

Anyone knows how much time they spend?

Salut Thierry. Glad you liked the short. The author’s first test video on Vimeo is from around August 2010, so it seems it took him more than a year and half. Not that much time, considering the amount of detail in the scenes and that he did most of the work himself.

Check out this Ruin WIP thread at Luxology for more info, it has some interesting making of tips:

Hey there. This is a really well done short. The chase takes you thorugh an adrenaline packed sequence and the texture is really well done and adds alot to the atmosphere. I thought the animations and dynamics were believable and you did not think about it which is great.
I hope to see more work from this talented artist and company.

thierry, I agree word for word. Especially “i love it”

From the bugs in the open scene to the camera work GREAT JOB!

It leaves me wanting more. I want to know more about him, his world, what’s he searching for, what happened to the world and what’s the deal with the blue dot’s under his skin.
