Oculus developing video games to showcase Rift

John Carmack, co-founder of ID Software and known for games such as Doom and Quake, was originally hired as chief technology officer by Oculus VR and is now working with other game developers at Oculus to create software to show the capabilities of the Rift VR head-mounted display. The Carnegie Mellon Graphics Lab has made available to the public a broad collection of motion capture data in various file formats. The motion was captured using 12 Vicon infrared MX-40 cameras. The data can be used in commercial projects. More on CMU.edu. (more...)

DE:Flicker helps solve high-frequency lighting changes in video footage

RE:Vision Effects, developers of Twixtor and ReelSmart Motion Blur, have released a new plugin for editing and compositing applications designed to smooth out the flicker and artifacts that can occur when shooting artificial lights, footage at high frame rates or when capturing timelapse videos. DE:Flicker can solve problems with strobing and light source flicker, can handle clips with multiple flicker types (with differing rates of flicker) and can deal with flicker that only occurs in part of the image without affecting the rest of the image.
