OpenHDRI has launched a new website, offering free high-dynamic-range images for use in lighting and rendering. The site currently hosts just seven HDRIs, but more new environments are promised as the library expands.
The quality appears to be high for free resources. The HDRIs are provided in full 32-bit OpenEXR format, at resolutions of up to 29,000 pixels. Each file is unclipped, preserving highlights without blown-out or clipped areas. All downloads are free and available without registration or paywalls.
The project is in its early stages, and the creator has invited feedback from users on what types of environments and setups would be most useful for future additions. For more information and access to the HDRI library, visit openhdri.org.
