Topaz Labs has announced it is to discontinue perpetual licensing for its software products as part of the launch of Topaz Studio, a new subscription-based collection of applications. The change means that future access to Topaz Photo AI, Gigapixel, and Video AI will only be available through the subscription, which includes seven applications, unlimited local and cloud image processing, and access to over 100 AI models.
The company said the move was necessary to support continued investment in AI model development, which has expanded significantly in 2025 with new releases such as Wonder, Standard MAX, Starlight Sharp, and Nyx XL. These and all future models will be included in the subscription at no additional cost.
Topaz Labs has outlined transition options for existing customers. Perpetual licenses already purchased will remain valid, and customers with active upgrade plans will continue to receive discounted pricing on corresponding Studio subscriptions. Those maintaining two active upgrade licenses will gain access to the full Topaz Studio without additional payment. A “last call” purchase option for perpetual licenses will remain open until October 3, after which they will no longer be offered.
