SpeedTree 10 released with vines, freehand pruning, mesh rigging and more
Unity has announced the release of SpeedTree Modeler 10, the latest version of its standalone botanical modelling software. This update includes “mesh helpers,” that allow users to manipulate hero meshes with curves for more detailed control over branches. The new Vine generator adds physics-based tools for creating vines that respond to gravity and their environment, with options for both procedural and manual control. The software now includes a Trim brush for reshaping trees directly, offering flexible trimming modes.
The user interface has been fully redesigned to improve usability, with optimized buttons, icons, and better scaling for various screen sizes. SpeedTree also merges its editions for games and cinema into a unified tool with customizable export options for different industries. New features such as Shade Pruning help optimize models by removing interior leaves to reduce poly count, while custom mesh packing and reference generators improve workflow flexibility.
