Unity Technologies has announced that its prices will rise in 2020. Currently, a Plus license costs $35 per month and a Pro license costs $125 per month. From January 1, 2020, a Plus license costs $40 per month and a Pro license costs $150. This is the first price increase since 2016 and free users can relax as there are no changes to the Personal edition. Find out more on the Unity Blog.
The coolest thing about this is that the user has no voice on this, no matter if they want to raise the price to 200$/month for the Plus and 1000$/month for the pro, if you are inside a project half way done, you have just one option, swallow it, if you are not in that situation, you have a second option, go to another software with all the added cost it has.
In any case, going to another software if they don’t re-instate the perpetual licensing model is, IMHO, the only safe option, being in the hands of a company is never a good idea.
A 20% price increase on the Pro version with no alternatives. This is EXACTLY why rental software is a problem.
