Unreal 4.23 released
Epic Games has announced the release of Unreal Engine 4.23 with many new features and improvements. Some of the highlights include Chaos, a new physics and fracturing system that promises to allow destruction simulations at real-time. To enable this, a new type of asset is available that allows the user to combine static meshes into collections which can be fractured in several different ways.
Also in this release are several improvements to real-time raytracing including better performance, greater stability quality. Virtual Texturing is also included, which allows the user to create and use much larger textures while reducing the memory footprint at run-time.
As with any Unreal release, there’s a long list of other changes. To see them all, visit Unreal’s blog.
Chaos destruction plugin implementation is still in beta and it’s only available if you recompile the engine’s code.
