London based Factory Fifteen have released their first short film as a collective. Shot in the Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Gamma uses a faux-documentary style to explore a possible future where private companies are charged with decontaminating irradiated cities. Giant levitating machines deposit "nuke root" technology - part fungus, part mollusc - to soak up radiation from the land. The technology is flawed, becomes autonomous, and renders the land even less habitable. The short film, a making-of, and stills can be found at FactoryFifteen.com.

ParaView is an open-source, multi-platform data analysis and visualization application being developed by Kitware, Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The latest version includes a redesigned Find Data dialog and Color Editor, extended data visualization capabilities, usability enhancements, improvements to the plugin framework, new panels, etc. More at ParaView.org.

AWN have posted a brief behind the scenes look at Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance which includes some of the work done by Australian based studio, Illoura. Illoura used 3DS Max and FumeFX to create the fire and smoke effects seen throughout the film. The full interview can be read over at AWN.

Lightmap has posted some information on upcoming developments for its software for augmenting and creating custom HDR maps. HDR Light Studio is being ported to Mac and Linux, and new features are being added, such as SunShade Nodes (offers precision control of very bright light sources, including the ability to dial down brightness), LightPaint technology (positioning of reflections and illumination by clicking on the 3D model's surface) and Light Node previews.
