Bforartists (Be for Artists) 1.0 has been released. The project aims to make Blender more user friendly through an improved and updated UX. According to the developers the main differences between Blender and bforartists are as follows:

  • A brand new Keymap with Left Click select, which is reduced to just the necessary hotkeys.
  • Cleaned up User Interface. More than 600 not necessary double menu entries removed.
  • Extended User Interface. Close to 100 formerly hotkey only tools have a menu entry now.
  • Rearranged User Interface. Some things are better accessible now, some are not so much in the way anymore.
  • Over 700 new native icons.
  • The posibility to have pure icon Buttons in more than one area, to reduce the scrolling and speed up work. In the tool shelf for example.
  • A user configurable Toolbar with icon buttons.
  • Improved Layouts.
  • Improved Tooltips.
  • Better readable standard theme.
  • Some new addons to improve usability, like the reset 3D View addon or the Important Hotkey addon.
    Extended material library.
  • Documentation is PDF based and fully text searchable
  • Many more small details.

Find out more and download the software from the bforartists website and watch tutorials on YouTube.

Nice!
Maybe a BforArchitects is an idea? We can finally kick out 3dsMax 😉
Cheers

So, if people start using this version and get used to it, I wonder what will happen when 2.8 comes out changing all the menus and interface. Will this version make sense? Maybe this version stays consistent when 2.8 is released?
ps. Thanks to the dev team for making B more accessible to everyone!!

2.8 will be way superior to this. Bforartists is a compilation of single person’s subjective ideas and opinions while Blender 2.8 will likely be a professionally designed workflow experience, based on what I’ve seen happening with Code Quest development so far.

I have seen many “single person subjective ideas” being much better than “professional designed workflow experience”. So your qualifications are not necessarily the value.

I think they´ll update it and probably they´ll create BforArtists 2.0 or something similar, probably the reason why this is 1.0 is because probably there is not going to be any more 2.7x releases and the path to the future is upgrading it to 2.8.

Personally I prefer Blender as is, the start of the learning curve is a bit step for seasoned users of other softwares, but after that it´s pretty easy IMO.

Cheers!

I actually like Blender’s stock UI… After spending years in ZBrush, any interface is a breeze to learn 🙂
