Chaos Group has released a service pack for V-Ray 3.0 for 3DS Max. The update includes many new features and improvements, including:
- VRayInstancer geometric plugin for instancing objects using Particle Flow systems
- Added support for OpenSubdiv objects in Alembic files
- V-Ray Frame Buffer improvements
- Added support for Microfacet GTR / GGX BRDF, which is ideal for hard surfaces such as metal
- Added clip opacity mode option for faster rendering of trees
- Enhanced VRayMultiSubTex with new randomized modes for choosing colors
- VRay2SidedMtl adds ability to filter the translucency effect through the diffuse color of the front-facing side
- Updated to Embree 2.3 – Embree can now accelerate V-Ray Proxy objects, instances and Hair Farm / Ornatrix hair and fur
- V-Ray RT GPU now supports hair and fur, subsurface scattering and light cache
- V-Ray RT support for Ornatrix
The service pack crashed the vray when working with RT… I work with two Geforce GTX 680, 780 Ti
Vray is looking more and more tempting, but i’m not sure what platform i’ll buy into…i added modo a while back…but their future is now uncertain as they’e being sold off to the highest bidder which maybe autodesk…i have 3ds max but autodesk have announced they are heading for 100% rental within 24 months…so…that leaves both of these looking like worrying platforms to stay on.
houdini indie doesn’t allow plugins
so…blender + vray maybe my long term bet…or if maxon “get real” with pricing..i might go there in the end.
bottomline Vray looks excellent…just need a 3d app that isn;t going rental at £1500inc vat a year
With absolutely no word at all on official pricing seems a bit premature to be talking about £1500 a year price tags! Will auto desk really be looking to price themselves out of the market? Somehow I don’t see that happening.
