3DCoat 2021 beta announced

Pilgway has announced the release of 3DCoat 2021 update as well as a new cut down version for texturing called 3DCoatTextura. This new version is essentially a tailored version of 3DCoat 2021 that includes only the 3D Painting/Texturing and Rendering tools at a more affordable price. It’s being aimed at users who create 3D models in other software but want a dedicated tool for Painting and Texturing. A new library of PBR scans will also be released, downloadable based on a monthly credit system.

sounds good since 3d coat became full of crap 3d software

@holy poly: If it’s full of stuff, had it ever occured to you that it’s because people requested all that stuff? Why do you speak as if your opinion was the only one that counts for anything? Different users have different needs, and thus your opinion reflects your own…not everyone else’s.
It does 4 main things at a high level…Texture Painting, UV Editing, Retopo and Sculpting/Modeling. Having an app full of crap (your words not mine) let’s users create a model that handles all those stages of the pipeline, very well, without having to buy and learn multiple applications. That’s not a detrimental thing. It’s a good thing and it’s what makes it appealing to most of it’s userbase.

Andrew is that you? hahaha Just kidding

I’m 3d coat fan since v3 and you have no idea what I’ve done for 3d coat.
I said crap and continue to say because my experience allows me to say that.
But to be clear Texturing is gold, that’s why I did what I did for Pilgway
Rendering and UV are sosolala
Retopo, sculpting, modeling, and rest are unfinished and not useful stuff for me as a 3d generalist. I have proof, the experience of years and many projects done and sometimes failed because of 3d coat.

Peace

I do not see any explanation for the severe attack on this software by some. I use it and I found it is a very wonderful software with wonderful support &  response to customers , amazing retopo , good sculpting , very good 3d pbr painting ,The only problem is in the user interface and it hasn’t changed much in the recent version You can get used to it after a while

i am surprised too. extremely fair upgrade policy aswell.
the software isn´t my go to for sculpting but texturing is great imo and alone worth the price.

very glad to see 3d coat evolve like this. texturing tools are really good and the split makes sense.
tbh i had never got a hang of the voxel system.
i presume there is no crossgrade pricing for current users? anyone?

The point of Textura is STRICTLY for Texture Painting. It is stated in the description that it is for artists WHO CREATE THEIR MODELS IN AN EXTERNAL APPLICATION (including setting up their own UV’S) and want a solid texture painting app. By your definition, then Substance Painter is also “useless software” since it doesn’t offer a UV editing environment (just an auto-UV function…which is exactly what Textura offers on import), either.

Me thinks thou dost complain too much.

yep. you do sound like a 3dcoat fan, for sure.

You apply a completely different standard to 3DCoat than you do to Substance Painter, which it competes directly with which also has no UV editing environment. So, by your logic, then Substance is also useless.

By your logic, if someone says that he is a fan, then he must speak only about pros but not cons.

Andrew this is for you I believe you’re here:

Pros: Fast texturing result, reasonable price.

Cons: very poor UI, super bad user experience, incompatible tools, too many duplicate tools, spontaneous changes, the installation folder is a complete mess, most of the tools used are abandoned, and useless tools are constantly being updated. etc

no man, nothing wrong with pros and cons.
but saying its a useless texturing software because of lack of uv mapping is just height of shite.

from a self purported “fan” of something on would expect a modicum of objectivity.

“no man, nothing wrong with pros and cons.”
who told you that I am a man? or do you think only men can do 3d?

“is just height of shite.”

i see both brain cells worked on that retort, good one.

fyi “man” was used idiomatically not as genderisation. here is a dictionary definition to help you out:

1. informal A term of address for another person, especially a friend or acquaintance. Usually but not solely used in reference to a male.Hey, man, good to see you!

2. n. one’s friend; a buddy, not necessarily male. (Also a term of address.) Look, man, take it easy!

i will refer to you as “androgynous puddle of goo” to be on the safe side, no problem.

who ordered you to rate 3d coat? who are you speaking for when you say “us”? you just spew bile and i called you on it. thats how public forums work, no biggie.

Your comment about 3DCoat Textura being “useless” since it doesn’t come with the UV environment in 3DCoat, is useless, because you do not apply that same hyper critical comment to it’s main competitor, Substance Painter…which also does not have a UV environment. The whole concept is that for a Texture Painter, they already have solid UV editing tools in their main 3D applications and DO NOT NEED a UV editing environment, but what their main application do not offer is top notch texture painting tools. That is the role of application like this…just texture painting tools. Period.

And your comment about the UI is useless. It’s designed to be very similar to Photoshop, where new users can quickly get up to speed. It’s also highly customizable which means a user can even hit TAB for a completely bare UI. Then, they can just use hotkeys to bring up panels and assets as they need them, or toggle the TAB key to go back to the previous layout.

to be fair, one of the aspects 3d coat could work is UI. bit crowded imho, may be a turn off for some.

are you sure about the textura having better texturing tools than the regular version? i had the impression its just a carved out version of the main app…

I was not making the suggestion that it is better, just the intent behind the separate app is just to provide Texture artists a cheaper version that has only the Texture Painting tools…so they are not paying for tools they do not use (Sculpting/Modeling/Retopo/UV). That is all.

As for the UI, I agree that it has room for improvement and have asked for some of those improvements. However, the notion that it seems crowded is just because a lot of panels that are often used, are visible in the default layout. Users can strip the UI to the bare essentials and even toggle the TAB key to go in and out of a minimal layout, whenever they want….using hotkeys to bring tools and panels right to their cursor.

I think the Layer panel will soon get a major overhaul, to where it looks/works even more like Photoshop, including clip masking.

How it compare to substance painter or quixel mixer or it is more like mari?

3d coat is much better than quixel mixer ,  substance painter only painting software while 3d coat is doing sculpting and amazing retopo system, mari is only painting software with an unbelievable high price

How is the 3D Coat library?

I mean, does it have something like substance source?and if it’s the case, what’s the cost?

there is a external repository library, some solid preinstalled stuff too. but rolling your own materials i found easier then with other software.

just got a system trey ad in win10 saying there is a free pbr library.

the smart materials do a really good work leveraging curvature and ao data. try it out.

one negative is performance in 8k but that is due to massive amount of data aswell…
