Pilgway has announced 3DCoat 2021.53. Updates include:
- The new RGB cavity was introduced as the default calculation method in Texturing. According to Pilgway, this is a significant feature for PBR painting over the texture/mesh.
- Smart Materials->Add Existing Folder has been completely rewritten. Now it takes into account all types of maps, all imaginable textures names aliases, recovers displacement from the normal map (if no native displacement found), assigns cube-mapping and generates the preview.
- Partial voxelization has been fixed. Partial voxelization, an invisible square border used to appear around the modified area after sure face strokes. If you do it a number of times, it becomes more and more visible. This was the reason why mesh was voxelized entirely in v2021. However, now that problem is gone and partial voxelization is clean.
- The Pose tool can now perform normal extrusion or regular transforms.
- Updates Manager has been added to ensure timely notifications about new program updates available and smooth update process.

The Pose tool Selection also got a big boost in performance. Previously, it could be a bit slow to make paint selections and to smooth them. That has now been sped up considerably, making it a much easier tool to use, especially considering it is the Swiss Army Knife of the Voxel Modeling toolset.
I like 3d coat but will never update from 4.x to 2021, the interface is a bit confusing and cranky. I don’t want to spend time on a new experience for nothing. Tried 2 times the Substance but every time failed. 3C is much faster and easy to use
What exactly is wrong with the Interface? Some people keep criticizing it, despite the fact that you can customize it exactly how you want. This (vague criticism) makes no sense, whatsoever.
It’s layout is patterned after Photoshop, which everyone knows…yet it’s confusing? You can hit TAB and have a completely blank viewport…accessing tools with the SPACE bar, layer and asset panels with hotkeys, etc.
I’m with Holy Poly what exactly is wrong with the interface its awesome. Also you comment is a little confusing.
you are too much aggressive Andrew, and you don’t listen to your users, you created a very good software but can’t develop it, you stuck my friend, the node system for water waves? seriously come on, better sell it out but not to Autodesk, please
How old are you, hOLY pOLY? This last post has the maturity level of a 12yr old boy.
Everyone is free to say their opinion, I am 34 years old, I am in 3d since 2004, with 3ds max 5, I remember the version where their added Maya’s shelf in Max and has removed it in the next version. I have seen much 3d software birth and death.
