Reallusion has announced new subscription-based licensing options for its animation software. Starting January 6, 2026, the company will offer subscription plans for Character Creator, iClone, and Cartoon Animator alongside its existing perpetual licenses.
The new subscriptions are offered with monthly or annual billing and are positioned as an alternative for personal users, short-term projects, and creators seeking lower upfront costs. Reallusion states that subscription licenses carry the same commercial-use rights and feature access as perpetual licenses under the existing end-user license agreement. Users with an active subscription receive access to the latest software versions, including major upgrades, without additional charges during the subscription period. Subscriptions allow access to plugins and content purchases and support integration with third-party tools such as Blender, Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, and ZBrush. Reallusion indicates that subscribers can later switch to a perpetual license or upgrade plans with member discounts applied automatically at checkout.
Perpetual licensing remains available and continues to be supported. Under this model, users make a one-time purchase with no recurring fees and retain indefinite access to the purchased version. Reallusion describes perpetual licenses as suited to long-term projects, studios, businesses, and educational institutions that require stable version control, multi-seat licensing, floating license management, shared content access, and collaboration with external partners. Perpetual licenses include a 14-day money-back guarantee, which does not apply to subscription plans.
Reallusion reports that it will offer seven subscription plans with both monthly and annual options, with entry pricing starting at $8.30 per month for Character Creator and $16.90 per month for iClone. Subscription licenses are limited to personal use and are not intended for workgroups or educational deployment. Cancellation is permitted at any time, with access continuing through the current billing period.
